About

Maine Marine Rigging (formerly Maloney Marine Rigging, Inc.) began offering sailboat rigging services and products in 1990. For over 33 years, we have worked with diverse and challenging projects: museum restorations, the suspension of sculptures in cruise ships, maintaining a 1959 Grand Banks fishing schooner, supporting an Olympic campaign, and rigging out everything from ice-boats to mega-yachts. Providing a wealth of knowledge and service for the racing and cruising sailor, Maine Marine Rigging is the rod rigging and hydraulics service center for Maine and New Hampshire.

The Team

Mike Sussman – General Manager

Mike, who grew up sailing, has been with MMR since 2005. In that time, he has built three canoes, hiked various mountains, and won races on foot and on the water.

He has also rigged numerous boats with wire, rod, and synthetic rigging, spliced all kinds of rope, rebuilt and installed hydraulic systems, and helped resolve rigging issues on everything from Turnabouts to circumnavigators.

While open for a challenging project, Mike is committed to safety and simplicity, always keeping an eye open for improvements to one’s sailing experience.

Steve Loughran

Steve joined Maine Marine Rigging in the Spring of 2023, but has worked professionally as a rigger for over 20 years. Throughout his career in the marine industry, he has served both as captain and crew aboard countless deliveries from the Great Lakes to the North Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Southern Pacific Ocean. In addition to sailing over 100,000 miles, he has been employed as a formal Yacht Captain, a Project Manager, Dockmaster, and Lead Rigger.

Whether it’s assembling spars, running a crane or travel lift, designing and fabricating rigging details on new builds, Steve is passionate about his work.

Jay Maloney (Founder Emeritus)

Although Jay has retired from Maine Marine Rigging, his spirit and dedication to providing customers with the safest gear designed for and built to withstand the most demanding conditions is the throughline in everything we do.
