Spar Replacement

Thunderhead

When the owner of the Philip Rhodes 49′ masthead cutter decided that he wanted a completely new rig to sail around the world, he entrusted us with the project. The end result was a carbon fiber mast and boom with a faux-finish to resemble the original spars. The state-of-the-art rig was accompanied by a brand new suit of rod rigging and an array of modern high-strength, low-stretch lines.

After the summer of 2013, the Swan 59 began thinking about a new mast to replace the 1984 rig, and we put forth several options. Working with Selden mast, we were able to provide a new aluminum mast that was lighter than the original spar and significantly less expensive than a new carbon mast. The LeisureFurl boom was fit to the new mast, preserving the sailing experience for the owner with improved performance.
